Winter has arrived and that means that Vienna’s gorgeous city squares are set to become even more magical with the arrival of Christmas markets! Whether you’re looking for some gift inspiration, want to go ice-skating, plan to indulge in some glühwein and warm up with a spot of Christmas cuisine or simply want to see the pretty lights in the lead-up to Christmas, we’ve got you covered with our list of the best Christmas markets happening around Vienna.

Vienna Christmas World at the Christmas Market

The biggest and brightest of the city’s markets has got to be Vienna Christmas World at City Hall Square. With over 100 booths, you can browse the selection of Christmas gifts, decorations, crafts, tasty treats and winter warming drinks while taking in the festive lights and trees. And that’s not all! For the first time, there will be two huge ice-rinks in the park where you can take to the ice and show off your skills.

Old Viennese Christmas Market

Found in the city centre, the Old Viennese Christmas Market is dedicated to tradition. This Christmas market is a step back in time with handicrafts, traditional mangers as well as ceramic decorations on offer. Head over in the late-afternooon to enjoy some traditional advent music.

Christmas Village: Maria-Theresien-Platz

Located next to the Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna and the Naturhistorisches Museum Vienna, the Christmas Village is smaller than Vienna Christmas World but still boasts an impressive 70 booths filled with gifts and treats while live gospel choirs fill the evening air with that Christmas spirit.

Schönbrunn Palace Market

One of the city’s more romantic markets, the Christmas market in front of Schönbrunn Palace is a mix of traditional and contemporary with a stunning imperial surrounding. Stock up on decorations for the house and get that warm fuzzy feeling inside when you listen to the live Christmas concerts. If you’ve got little ones with you, be sure to head this way because their Christmas workshops will have them as busy as Santa’s little elves!

Belvedere Palace

Another beautiful backdrop, the Christmas Village at Belvedere Palace is a quieter affair compared to Vienna’s other Christmas Markets.
