It’s the first of March and we’re already looking forward to spring in Vienna, but more importantly, looking forward to the popular Easter Markets! Set in front of some of the best attractions in Vienna they offer a wide range of beautiful seasonal gifts, hand painted eggs and other traditional crafts, not to mention delicious culinary treats! What’s even better is that are all family friendly, so the kids can get stuck in with lots of Easter fun, too!
The Easter market in front of Schönbrunn Palace is considered to be one of the best Easter markets in Vienna – and one of the most romantic, with a stunning backdrop! Set up in front of the palace, there are around 60 exhibitors offering a wide range of traditional food, as well as hand crafted Easter decorations and hand painted eggs from all over Austria. Whilst you’re there, you’ll be seranaded by live musical performances and the kids can have fun with their own activities, such as at the Easter Bunny Workshop, interactive Easter games with Roberta the Hen and the highly anticipated Imperial Easter Nest Hunt.

You might have heard of the Old Viennese Easter market on Freyung for its 40,000 egg high tower of eggs – the tallest in Europe! If that’s not a reason to go, then it should be to visit the beautiful old square in the Old City which is a beautiful historic square. Enjoy live music, traditional dances and puppet shows in a fun filled programme of Easter fun for all the family. Don’t miss the rabbit hutch full of Easter bunnies for the kids, too!

The Easter market on Am Hof square is one for more refined taste, offering a range of handmade crafts from jewellery to flower arrangements, paintings and prints, as well as hats and clothes. You can also pick up a unique hand painted hand crafted Easter egg and decoration to get you into the seasonal spirit, too. This market is a great place for good quality souvenirs!

For two weekends a year, the Imperial Palace Schloss Hof hosts its own Easter market. Set among the newly blossomed flowers in the beautiful manicured lawns, this colourful backdrop is hard to beat. Get there on the grey hop-on hop-off line and enjoy the culinary delights, art and handicraft and a vast children’s programme including pony riding and a Easter egg hunt.
